Quiet Lever
Let’s talk

Privacy policy. What this site collects, and what happens to it.

Last updated

This policy explains how Quiet Lever handles personal information collected through www.quietlever.ai, including its contact form. We have tried to write it plainly. If anything is unclear, email chris@quietlever.ai.

The short version

  • We collect what you type into the contact form, plus the basic technical information any website receives.
  • We use it to reply to you and to work out whether we can help.
  • We don’t sell or share your personal information, and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
  • Two service providers, Vercel and Formspree, handle it so the site and form work.
  • You can ask to see, correct, or delete your information at any time.

Who we are

Quiet Lever is a technical consulting business run by Chris Sciolla and based in the United States. Quiet Lever decides how the personal information described here is used, and Chris Sciolla is responsible for protecting it. In this policy, “Quiet Lever”, “we”, and “us” mean the business.

What this policy covers

This policy covers www.quietlever.ai, its contact form, and emails you send us about a possible project. It does not cover information handled during client work, which is governed by the agreement for that project. It also does not cover other websites we link to; they have their own policies.

What we collect

What you tell us through the contact form

The form asks four short questions. When you send it, we receive:

  • your description of what is taking more time than it should;
  • how often it happens;
  • the tools involved, if you list any;
  • your name and email address;
  • your company name, if you give it.

Nothing you type is sent until you press Send on the last step. Your answers are held in the open page while you fill it in and are never saved to your browser’s storage, so leaving or refreshing the page discards them.

The form also contains a hidden field that people never see. Automated spam tools tend to fill it in, so a filled-in field marks a submission as likely spam.

Please don’t include passwords, financial account numbers, health information, or other sensitive details. We don’t need them to reply.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you attach.

Hosting and server logs

Our host, Vercel, records standard technical information each time your browser requests a page or sends the form. This includes your IP address, an approximate location derived from it, your browser and device type, the address requested, and the time. Vercel uses these logs to run and secure the service and keeps them for a limited period.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. It works without cookies. For each page view it records the page address, the site that referred you, an approximate location (country, region, and city), and your browser, operating system, and device type. To count visitors without cookies, Vercel derives a temporary identifier from your request and discards it after 24 hours. We see the results as totals, and the analytics do not collect information that would let anyone follow you across other websites.

We also count how far visitors get through the contact form: which step was reached, whether the form was sent, and, if sending failed, the general reason, such as a network error. These counts never include anything you typed.

Spam and bot protection

The contact form is protected by Vercel BotID. It runs a check in the background, with no puzzle to solve, that examines technical signals from your browser and device to tell people apart from automated bots. When you send the form, our server asks Vercel for the result and receives an answer about whether the request looks automated. We use that answer only to block spam, not for advertising or to build a profile of you. Vercel may rely on a specialist bot-detection provider to run the check.

How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • reply to your inquiry, usually with a few questions or times to talk;
  • understand your problem well enough to tell you whether we can help, and to scope a possible project;
  • keep a record of our correspondence;
  • keep the site and form running, secure, and free of spam;
  • understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it;
  • meet our legal obligations and protect our rights if a dispute arises.

Filling in the form does not add you to a mailing list, and we won’t send you marketing because of it. We don’t use what you send us to train AI models. Chris Sciolla reads every inquiry; no decision about you is made by software alone.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We disclose it only in these cases.

Service providers

These companies handle information on our behalf to provide their service to us:

  • Vercel hosts the site, runs the server function that receives the form, and provides the analytics and bot protection described above. See Vercel’s privacy policy.
  • Formspree receives each submission from our server, keeps a copy in our Formspree account, and delivers it to Chris Sciolla by email. See Formspree’s privacy policy.
  • Our email provider stores the emails we send and receive, including form submissions delivered by Formspree.

Legal reasons

We may disclose information when the law requires it, such as in response to a valid court order, or when it is needed to protect someone’s safety or our legal rights.

If the business changes hands

If Quiet Lever is ever merged with or sold to another business, the records described here may transfer with it. This policy would continue to apply to them unless you are told otherwise.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and our analytics work without cookies. The bot check described above may use your browser’s storage while it runs, only to tell people apart from bots.

Because we don’t sell or share personal information, there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal to switch off. The site works the same either way.

How long we keep it

  • Inquiries that don’t become projects. We delete the form submission and related emails, including the copy in Formspree, within 24 months of our last contact with you.
  • Inquiries that become projects. We keep our correspondence for as long as we work together, and afterwards for as long as we need it for tax, accounting, or legal reasons.
  • Server logs and analytics. Vercel keeps these for the limited periods its service sets. The temporary analytics identifier is discarded after 24 hours.

You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see Your rights and choices).

How we protect it

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. The site and form use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to submissions is limited to Chris Sciolla, and the accounts that hold them are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If a breach involving your information creates a real risk of serious harm, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

Where your information is processed

Quiet Lever is based in the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States. Some may also process it in other countries where they operate. If you are outside the United States, including in Canada, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States. There it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities under US law, and privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
  • give you a copy of it;
  • correct it if it is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete it;
  • stop using it where you gave consent, by withdrawing that consent.

To make a request, email chris@quietlever.ai. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm the request from the email address you used to contact us. We aim to respond within 30 days, and we don’t charge for reasonable requests. We won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights. If the law requires or allows us to keep some information, we will explain why.

United States residents

Several US states, including California, give residents specific privacy rights. Depending on where you live, these include the rights to know about, access, correct, and delete your personal information, to receive it in a portable format, and to opt out of its sale, its sharing for targeted advertising, and profiling. We don’t sell or share personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or profile you, so there is nothing to opt out of.

You can use an authorized agent to make a request for you; we may ask the agent for proof that you authorized them. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we will answer the appeal in writing.

California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, we tell you that we collect these categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers: your name, email address, and IP address.
  • Professional or commercial information: your company name, and your description of a business problem, how often it happens, and the tools involved.
  • Internet or network activity: page views, referring sites, and browser and device information recorded by our host, analytics, and bot protection.
  • Approximate geolocation: derived from your IP address.

We collect them from you and from your browser, use them for the purposes in How we use your information, and disclose them only to the service providers listed above for those purposes. We have not sold or shared personal information, including that of anyone under 16, and we don’t collect or use sensitive personal information.

Canadian residents

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and similar provincial laws, you can access your personal information, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to its use, subject to legal limits. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a request or concern, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Quebec residents. Under Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, Chris Sciolla is the person in charge of the protection of personal information at Quiet Lever. You can reach him at chris@quietlever.ai. You can also ask to receive the personal information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format. As described above, your information is communicated outside Quebec, to the United States. You can make a complaint to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

Children

This site is meant for businesses and is not directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change, for example if we add a service provider. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will post it here and, where the law requires, contact you directly. This version took effect on .
